Course Overview:

In this course, the general dentist will receive detailed instruction as well as a hands-on
portion on how pediatric dentists treat many common orthodontic problems with
techniques that can be done in the office. Specific topics to be covered include:
1. How to do an orthodontic exam and what that information means
2. Primary vs permanent teeth ideal occlusion
3. The preferred sequence of eruption of primary and permanent teeth
4. Diagnosis and managing ankylosis of primary teeth and congenitally missing
permanent teeth
5. Diagnosing and early treatment of space management, anterior cross-bites, and
posterior cross-bites
6. Indications and contraindications for simple appliances such as maxillary
expansion appliances, correcting single tooth maxillary lingual cross-bites, habit
breaking appliances, and space maintainers
7. The role of enlarged tonsils and airway issues in malocclusion
8. Diagnosing common eruption problems from multiple panorexes

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants will learn:
* Understand the management and treatment of agenesis and ankylosis cases
* How to diagnose and treat anterior and posterior cross-bites and thumb/tongue
habits
* Diagnose and treat common eruption problems by way of multiple panorexes
* Know the indications and contraindications for space maintainers
* Recognize when a case should be referred to the orthodontist


The Hands-on portion will include:
1. An interactive session of diagnosing and interpreting eruption problems from
multiple panorexes
2. Placing bands and taking impressions for a space maintainer on a typodont and
writing a prescription for each of the common interceptive appliances

About the Speaker:

Dr. Kisby is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. After completing his Residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Floating Hospital at New England Medical Center in Boston, MA, Dr. Kisby was Chief of Pediatric Dentistry and Assistant Director of Dentistry at R.I. Hospital in Providence, RI. He then went on to spend 17 years in private practice in Massachusetts until he accepted the position of Chief of Pediatric Dentistry at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT. He has been Board Certified in Pediatric Dentistry since 1983, was a former Contributing editor to the Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry, he has multiple publications, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry as well as a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Kisby had created two Pediatric Dental Residencies, one in Danville, PA and the second in Wilmington, DE, where he was Program director of both programs. Dr. Kisby has over 48 years of clinical and teaching experience thus bringing new and exciting techniques and insights to those dentists and staff who treat children.

NorCalAGD Cancellation and Refund Policy:

Registrations are subject to a $50 non-refundable processing fee. Cancellations made by email seven days prior to the course date will receive a full refund less the $50 processing fee. Cancellations made within the week prior to the course date will receive a 50% refund  less the $50 processing fee. Transfer of a registration to another name will be considered by email request through date of registration.

The formal continuing education programs of this program provider are accepted by the AGD for Fellowship/Mastership and membership maintenance credit. Approval does not imply acceptance by state of provincial boards of dentistry or AGD endorsement. The current term of approval extends from (8/1/2025) to (7/31/2029).
