Course Overview:
This comprehensive course equips general dentists with the knowledge and clinical skills to recognize, diagnose, and manage Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and Sleep-Disordered Breathing, including Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Grounded in current science and regenerative approaches, the program emphasizes dentistry’s unique role in systemic health and explores how oral healthcare can transform the management of conditions often overlooked or under treated in traditional medicine. Through a combination of basic sciences, case discussions, and hands-on training, participants will gain an understanding of the pathophysiology of sleep apnea, the use of mandibular advancement devices (MADs), and the spectrum of oral appliance therapies. Special focus will be given to interdisciplinary collaboration, clinical protocols for bite registration and orthotic fabrication, and strategies to avoid complications while optimizing patient outcomes. This course positions general dentists at the forefront of integrative healthcare—empowering them to leverage their expertise in airway and neuromuscular management to improve patients’ overall health and quality of life.
Learning Objectives:
-
Explain the pathophysiology of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and its relationship to Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD).
-
